Welcome To the World of Words

Welcome to The World of Words. Here The Muse Of Language Arts explores the ins and outs of using words well (and badly), correctly (and incorrectly). The Muse also explores their many eccentricities and has some fun with them.

About the world of words

Ah, Words! Words! Words! Where would we be without them?

Words are what phrases, clauses, sentences, paragraphs, pages, books, stories, drama, and poetry are made of. Language and literature are communicated with and through them, at base a truly mysterious process. Next to letters and punctuation, they are the most basic units of written communication. Impressive little symbols, aren't they?

Here The Muse is primarily interested in single words or fragments thereof, and in simple combinations of words that form small meaningful groups, such as phrases, clauses, sentences, brief quotations, and the like. She's interested in the words themselvesthe building blocks. She asks them what they really mean and demands an answer.

Didn't think words could be interesting or informative in and of themselves? Visit some of the pages listed in the Related Pages menu at the right side of this page.

Alphabets, Letters, and Words

Alphabets consist of letters (characters). Letters make up words; words make up the sentences and paragraphs that in turn are the building blocks of the language arts. Although less complex than some of the other elements of language, alphabets are the cornerstones of language and are fundamental to success for the arts that depend on them, such as music, literature, and the language arts themselves.

The Muse Of Language Arts believes that foreign alphabets should not present insuperable impediments for readers or writers not formally trained in them. Here, The Muse provides a collection of alphabets taken from different languages that an English-speaking reader or writer is likely to encounter in an exploration of the arts. This information is intended to help them understand, translate, and otherwise deal with characters that appear in the English or foreign language materials they read or write.

When pertinent, The Muse also provides information about the history, evolution, and other aspects of alphabets, letters, and words.
