feature description

Electricka's Resource Shelf is an electronic bibliography of arts-related institutions, people, traditional and computerized reference works, books, recordings, films, and much more, as well as a list of citations of arts subject matter sources such as books, videos, and films about the arts. It provides information on how to access resources, and if the resource is available via the Internet, it allows the visitor to connect to it directly.

Electricka's Reference Shelf contains two sections: 1) The Catalog, and 2) Resource Reviews:

  1. The Catalog is an electronic index in the form of a searchable table that lists scores of off-line and online arts-related reference works and other kind of arts-related resources.
  2. A Resource Review is an in-depth review of a single arts-related resource that describes and explains the resource.

How to submit an item for publication at electricka's resource shelf

You are being asked to write and submit either: 1) a new entry for The Catalog, 2) a new Resource Review, or 3) an update for an existing Catalog entry or an update for an existing Review. Electricka invites you to send her:

For The CatalogA brief write-up on your favorite arts resource for The Catalog—whether it's your own web site or art project or one that you know about or admire—one that Electricka's visitors can link to, visit in person, borrow, or acquire, or

For the ReviewsA Resource Review on an arts resource or cultural asset you believe visitors should and would like to know about.

For UpdatesAn update or change to an existing Catalog entry or to an existing Review.

Send one or the other, but don't send both at this time.

Submit as many times as you like:

  • If you send a new entry for The Catalog now, you can send a Review later, or vice versa.
  • If you send a new entry for The Catalog now, you can send another one for The Catalog later.
  • If you send a new Review now, you can send another Review later.

  1. Read this guideline. It explains everything you need to know to prepare your Catalog entry or Review for submission.

If your submission is an update, supply the name of The Catalog entry your update will modify.

submission requirements—Resource Reviews

Existing Reviews provide examples of the style you should follow and the content you should provide. If called for by subject matter, style, or content, Electricka's Staff will edit your Review so that it follows typical Review style and format; they will prepare an entry for The Catalog with a link to it.

Submissions to Resource Reviews generally meet these requirements:

  • A concise description of a single resource written in Resource Review style.
  • Arts-related subjects only.
  • Multimedia optional.
  • Links to other web sites must be approved by Electricka.
  • Written at least in part by a visitor to Electricka's web site or by a collaboration of visitors.
  • Primarily in English (foreign language names or expressions or other constructions are fine, if appropriate).
  • Less than about 500 or 1000 words.
  • About an arts resource subject, topic, or theme of the author's own choosing. (Subjects taken from or related to the arts, Electricka's web site, and the muses are especially welcome.)
  • 100 percent original with the author(s) except for properly credited quotations, citations, references, photos, artwork, film clips, animations, music, sound bites, etc.
  • One or more of the following applies to your write-up:
    • Copyright or patent has expired or never existed.
    • Write-up is in the public domain; it does not belong to anybody.
    • You own it  because you created it.
    • You own the legal right to publish which you acquired from someone else.
    • You have oral or written permission from the owner to publish.
  • Completely finished by the author(s) when submitted.

If your submission is an update, supply the name of the Review that your update will modify.

Electricka's Staff will convert your submission into table format. Your Resource Shelf submission can be accepted for publication even if it is not written especially for this feature. It does not have to be submitted by the author(s). Electricka's policies apply.
